Installation is performed by our certified crews using a proprietary track-and-tension method. An aluminum or PVC perimeter profile is secured to the walls at the desired height. The pre-cut membrane is then heated (for PVC) or mechanically clipped (for polyester) and locked into the track under tension, creating a perfectly smooth, monolithic surface. A typical 300 sq ft room can be completed in under four hours with virtually no dust or debris.

The minimum profile depth is approximately 0.5 inches (1.25 cm) from the existing ceiling when no fixtures are recessed. When integrating recessed lighting, HVAC diffusers, or speakers, the drop distance is determined by the depth of the fixture housing — typically 3 to 6 inches. Our engineering team specifies exact clearance requirements during the project planning phase.

Yes. Stretch ceilings integrate seamlessly with virtually all building systems. Recessed downlights, linear LED strips, HVAC registers, sprinkler heads, smoke detectors, speakers, and access panels can all be incorporated into the membrane. For luminous ceiling applications, LED arrays are installed above a translucent membrane to create uniform, edge-to-edge illumination. Our team coordinates directly with electrical and mechanical contractors to ensure precise cutout placement and structural support.

Stretch ceiling membranes are engineered for long-term performance. PVC films will not crack, peel, discolor, or collect condensation under normal conditions. The material is inherently resistant to mold, mildew, and bacterial growth. With proper installation, stretch ceilings carry an expected service life exceeding 25 years. Stratus provides a manufacturer-backed warranty on all materials and workmanship. The membrane is also fully demountable and re-installable, allowing access to the plenum for maintenance without replacement.

Absolutely. Stretch ceilings are ideally suited for demanding commercial environments including restaurants, hotel lobbies, medical facilities, retail spaces, swimming pools, spas, and laboratories. The membrane is impervious to moisture, making it an excellent choice for high-humidity zones. For chlorinated or saline environments, we specify corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum profiles. Acoustic micro-perforated membranes are available for spaces requiring sound absorption, meeting NRC ratings appropriate for open offices, conference rooms, and public assembly areas.

Yes. Using high-resolution digital printing technology, virtually any image, pattern, logo, or artwork can be reproduced directly onto the membrane surface. Print-ready files should be supplied at 300 DPI minimum. Printed ceilings are available on multiple finishes and are frequently specified for branded environments, feature walls, hospitality spaces, and custom residential installations.

Yes. One of the key advantages of stretch ceiling systems is their reversibility. The membrane can be carefully detached from the perimeter track, allowing full access to the plenum for mechanical repairs, inspections, or upgrades. Once work is complete, the same membrane can be re-tensioned and reinstalled without degradation in appearance or performance.

Stretch ceiling membranes manufactured to European and international standards achieve Class A fire ratings per ASTM E84 and carry B-s1,d0 or B-s2,d0 Euroclass classifications. The material is self-extinguishing — it will not sustain combustion or produce flaming droplets. Fire-rated assemblies can be engineered with additional barrier layers installed behind the membrane when project specifications require enhanced compartmentalization.

Standard stretch ceiling membranes reflect sound and can improve the perceived brightness and openness of a space. For applications requiring sound absorption, Stratus offers micro-perforated acoustic membranes that allow sound energy to pass through the membrane into an absorptive backing layer. These systems achieve Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) values suitable for offices, conference rooms, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and educational environments.

There is no practical maximum. Single-membrane spans of up to 50 feet are achievable without visible seams, depending on the material and color selected. For larger areas, membranes are factory-welded with high-frequency RF welding, producing joints that are virtually invisible once installed. Stratus has successfully completed installations exceeding 30,000 square feet on individual projects.

Stretch ceilings require minimal maintenance. Under normal conditions, the surface remains clean and does not attract dust or static buildup. When cleaning is necessary, a soft microfiber cloth with warm water is sufficient. For more thorough cleaning, a mild non-abrasive detergent may be used. Avoid solvents, abrasive cleaners, and sharp objects. Gloss finishes can be maintained with standard glass cleaner for optimal reflectivity.

Yes. Stretch ceiling technology supports complex three-dimensional forms including domes, vaults, waves, cones, and freeform organic shapes. Custom aluminum frameworks are fabricated to define the desired geometry, and the membrane is tensioned over the structure to produce smooth, continuous curved surfaces. 3D stretch ceiling elements are widely used as architectural features in lobbies, retail environments, museums, and signature hospitality spaces.
